Scenes and Soirees

Some time ago, when Enticing Miss Darcy was just being published, I created a set of “scrapbook” pages for a post I did about it at Austen Authors. I came across those pages in my computer files and thought I’d share them here today. Sorry, there is no excerpt, but I think each page will give you a good bit of information about the story.

This book, as well as all my other Dash of Darcy and Companion books are on sale this month because next month, they are going to become exclusive to the Kindle store so they can be enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. (Links to the series on several stores and info about prices can be found on my Current Book Promotions page by clicking here.)

At the end of Enticing Miss Darcy, you will find a short story sequel included in the book. 🙂

*whispers* The hero of the story is a Fitzwilliam brother. The third and youngest.

And a bonus image

Jack is one of the original characters I have created, so I’m going to include his “Meet the Main Character” card here for you to get to know a little about him. 🙂 (Oh, and in case you are wondering, Alistair is the fellow who married Anne in Becoming Entangled and another original character. 🙂 )

Remember this book and all the other Dash of Darcy and Companion books are on sale now and moving to Kindle Unlimited in April. I really do hope you’ll take a chance on this book and meet Jack.

Music Monday: Home (Phillip Phillips)

PUBLISHED TO YOUTUBE BY PHILLIP PHILLIPS ON AUGUST 2, 2012.

This song is one I often listen to as an instrumental cover by The Piano Guys while writing, but I thought that today, I would share the vocal version, which is on my Whatever for Whenever Spotify playlist. (This song on Spotify can be found here.)

The lyrics are what has me pairing this song with Master of Longbourn today. The Mr. Collins in this book is searching for a home. He has demons that fill him with fear. However, he finds himself surrounded by those who are willing to help make Longbourn his home.

Master of Longbourn, Ch. 8

Using the candle he held in his hand, Collins lit a second one that was in the lamp on the table next to where Mr. Bennet had been sitting earlier that day. He looked around the room.

Mr. Bennet had told him he was to make this room his second refuge. His first was his bedchamber, of course. There he could lock himself away without there being much chance of being disturbed, but here, he was more accessible, and here is where Bingley had very firmly insisted he should read each evening.

Truth be told, Bingley had wished for him to sit with the others in the sitting room, but Darcy had pled his case and convinced Bingley that the study would be better for reviewing what needed to be learned.

Collins tipped his head and eyed the book on the desk. He wanted to go over it again. He was positive he could remember nearly everything Mr. Bennet had told him about the tenants listed in it. He glanced at the door. No one was with him; he could peek at it.

He crossed to the desk, placed his hand on the book, and just as he was about to lift the cover, shook his head and retreated to the chair near the lamp without the book. He did not want to have to tell Bingley or Darcy tomorrow afternoon that he had spent another evening studying, for both gentlemen had thought it best if he spent one evening consuming the novel he had promised Kitty he would read.

He sighed as he settled into his chair, and taking up his book, he placed it unopened in his lap while he pondered the lovely Miss Kitty Bennet and watched the shadows chase each other in the flickering dance of the candles’ flames. Perhaps in the new year when Bingley had his ball, he would dance two sets with her. Perhaps by then, she would even be accepting of his addresses, or at least, by then, he would have learned enough from Darcy and Bingley to be able to present them. By spring, he might even find himself in a position to make her his wife. That thought could not be made without a smile finding its way to his lips.

“May I enter?”

Evelina clattered to the floor as Collins started at the sweet voice that called to him from the door.

Music Monday: You Don’t See Me (North and South)

…“I did not know Mr. Blakesley had a lady,” Grace’s new bench mate said. “Indeed, I have never seen him with any lady in particular in all the time I have been in Bath.”

“Oh, she is not from Bath.” Grace’s stomach twisted at the idea of spreading gossip about Walter.

“I do not see how she could not be. I do not believe Mr. Blakesley has been gone from Bath for these past six months.” She leaned a bit closer to Grace. “Not even at Christmas time. His parents came here.” She clucked her tongue. “If he has told you he has a lady somewhere other than in Bath, he has not been honest with you.” She sighed. “And I find it difficult to believe he would be so deceptive.”

This video has nothing to do with tomorrow’s chapter of Her Secret Beau but everything to do with how Lord Westonbury might be feeling about his relationship with Mary and where my brain kind of needs to be while writing their story at present. It also has to do with the fact that I was given the privilege of reading the first draft of a North and South short story which Rose Fairbanks has written for an anthology that she is in with several other authors called Falling for Mr. Thornton.  You can keep up with the project on their Facebook page if you are a Facebook user.

Currently, as I am attempting to write this rapidly on Saturday, hurricane Dorian is beginning to make his presence known. The wind is picking up and the rain is pelting down, but we still have power. However, we know that the power will eventually go out as the storm settles in. That’s why I am attempting to dash this off as quickly as possible. 🙂 Continue reading Music Monday: You Don’t See Me (North and South)

Music Monday: To Make You Feel My Love (Northanger Abbey)

If, someday, I should be so fortunate as to earn your good opinion as well as your heart, you have only to tell me, and I will be yours for time and eternity.

[from Charles: To Discover His Purpose]

Published to YouTube by FallingforJJ on December 15, 2010.

This song seemed to fit the scene from which I took the quote above so well that I had to share both today. 🙂

The quote on this graphic is from the same scene as the one above.

Charles: To Discover His Purpose is ready to be delivered to ereader devices everywhere next Tuesday, August 28, 2018!

I finished the final edits and was able to get advance reader copies distributed this week. I am so relieved to have that done before I run away for a few days with my hubby. 🙂 I will be able to relax much better knowing that part of the publishing process is complete.

I would like to say the print book is almost ready, but it still has not been started beyond some formatting. Therefore, this time, the print book might arrive later than the ebook.

You can find a link to all my vendors by clicking this picture. There is also a description of the book there.

Charles’s story is the second in my Other Pens, Mansfield Park episodes. Mary Crawford’s story will be the third, but that is not yet started. It is waiting until after my vacation time is over.

I started a new story this past week. This one will be a Dash of Darcy story. There was a reader on Facebook who suggested making Mr. Collins into a member of the Bennet family from a young age, and I have taken that little idea for this story. I have no idea if I will even get close to what she had in mind when she gave me that suggestion, but so far, the story is really enjoyable. I should have enough of it written soon (maybe even by next Monday) to start sharing some excerpts here.

I should also tell you that I have almost finished my Dash of Darcy and Companions Collection re-organization project. This week I created two Companion Duos. These were also the result of a reader’s suggestion on Facebook. She had the Dash of Darcy Duos and was wondering if I would do a Companions Duo. I hadn’t thought to do that at that time, but after considering it, I created these two:

Duo 1 includes A Very Mary Christmas and Not an Heiress (both are Mary Bennet stories).

Duo 2 includes Becoming Entangled and Enticing Miss Darcy (both are sequels to Unravelling Mr. Darcy).

I only need to complete a few print copies for this collection, and the project is done! All the ebooks are ready and available.

And that’s it for the news this week. Even though I will be away for a few days this week, both Wordless Wednesday and Thursday’s Three Hundred will post as usual. I just might be slower responding to comments.

I hope you have a great week!

Music Monday: Falling Slowly (Period Dramas)

“Why just last year, three young ladies made very eligible matches after I had shown them particular attention. I tell you, I am a good luck charm for the matrimonially-minded miss.” {Charles Edwards in Henry: To Prove Himself Worthy]

Those are just a few of the lines from Chapter 1 of Henry: To Prove Himself Worthy where we are introduced to Henry Crawford’s friend, Charles Edwards.

Posted on YouTube by FANNYJKL, May 18, 2018.

Why am I sharing a quote from that book when I have another book coming out this week?

Because Charles happens to be the next character who will be subjected to my particular sort of reformation and improvement. At present, he is a rake — a bad boy through and through.  But, we all know that that will change. 🙂

The above video is one that I have pinned to my Pinterest board for Charles’s story — but I’ll get to more information about that in a moment.

For now, I want to remind you that the story for another gentleman, William Collins, who underwent a transformation releases this Thursday, June 28, 2018! That’s only three more sleeps until Master of Longbourn goes LIVE. It is currently on pre-order and can be found at your favourite retailer by following this link.

There are a few advance reader reviews that you can read on Bookbub here. Thank you to those who read and reviewed early copies. 🙂

Ok, now back to Charles. 🙂

This week, I was able to get just under 5,000 words written on this new work in progress. Here’s what I can tell you about the story at the moment:

The title is Charles: To Discover His Purpose

The Hero and Heroine are Charles Edwards and Evelyn Barrett. As I said before, Charles is Henry’s friend (and also Trefor Linton’s friend). Evelyn is Constance Linton’s friend.

Charles is rakish. He’s drifting along through life having a great time.

Evelyn is a proper young lady — well, mostly — she does have a mischievous streak, and she can be direct in her words. She also has a carrying heart which sees her doing all manner of charity work.

As you can probably guess from that information, Charles is going to hit a rough patch in his easy, take-what-you-can-get life, and that rough patch’s name is Evelyn.  For him, it might start as a bit of a game to see if he can break the proper Evelyn and steal a kiss or two or more. But as Henry Crawford discovered in Mansfield Park, games such as this can be dangerous as they may end up breaking the player’s heart. (And yes, there is at least that one deliberate nod to Mansfield Park in this story. There may be more. Time will tell.)

Can you see how the song I shared today seems to fit with this story? Charles and Evelyn will be slowing falling for each other and there will be some games played and there will some struggle and there is a need for being pointed “home,” etc. That is why I chose this song to share as it’s theme feels like it fits well with Charles’s story.

Would you like to read a short excerpt from what I have written so far? If so, keep reading 🙂 This is a portion of what I wrote on Friday of last week. It’s part of chapter 2 and will be posted soon on Patreon. (Probably tomorrow)

This portion focuses on Evelyn and her not well-pleased mother.
