Music Monday: Thunderstruck, 2Cellos

In this week’s Music Monday post, I am sharing a bit about what I did with my writing time this past week as well as a story snippet and a fun video that I think sums up how Elizabeth feels in the excerpt when she figures out exactly where she is.  Enjoy! And have a great Monday!

WRITING NEWS:

This week has been a low word count week for writing. There were other things that needed doing.  One of the things that I did was create a new cover for

One of the things that I did was create a new cover forSo Very Unexpected So Very Unexpected.   I had one that I was using as I was writing and editing the book, but I wasn’t completely happy with it. I am much better pleased with this new cover.  At the same time, I also created a cover for At All Costs and for the bundled Willow Hall Romance series.  I have also started working on the print cover for So Very Unexpected as well as getting final file formats started. I should have my last edits back this week and NEXT Tuesday, the book should be published in ebook format with print being ready shortly after.

Part of my writing time this week was devoted to the new story I have started and the other part was given to preparing an Austen Author’s post for next Tuesday. The first draft of that post is ready, but it still needs graphics. And I must decide if I am going to do a giveaway.

One reason I did not get as much story written this week is that I have hit a wall of thinking (which means I must be at least halfway through as that is where this wall usually hits). There are details that need to be considered. So while my brain works on those things, I did some reading and a bit of planning.  Between this and the graphic work for the covers, my brain is feeling nearly ready to tackle those decisions.

STORY EXCERPT:

Below is a small excerpt from my newest work in progress, Discovering Mr. Darcy — the one I have on pause for thinking ;).

Elizabeth closed the door to the room.  It was nicely furnished with a couch and chair in front of the fireplace and a lovely writing desk under the window.  This was as much as she could see since an armoire blocked her view of the rest of the room.  Thinking the piano she sought was beyond this armoire, Elizabeth stepped around the piece of furniture and stopped.  There was no piano, but there was a very large bed and a trunk and a set of clothes laying on the bed — a set of men’s clothes.  And boots. There were boots standing next to a chair beside the bed.  She turned back to the door. She had counted three doors up on the left just as she had been instructed. She was certain of it.  She tried the handle on the door, but it would not turn.  She pulled harder and then knocked softly as panic began to fill her chest.

“Richard, is that you?”

Elizabeth’s heart lurched. No, no, no! This could not be his room. It could not be.

“Richard?” Darcy called as he entered his room, rubbing his head with a towel.

Elizabeth dropped her gaze to the ground.  Mr. Darcy was dressed only in a robe, and she was standing in his room.  Oh, how she wished the floor would open up and drop her to her death. That would be far less painful than forcing a “No, it is not Richard” from her lips. However, the floor did not open and her teeth, tongue, and lips managed to produce the sounds needed to alert him to her presence.  She covered her face with her hands.

“The door is locked. I cannot leave,” she added to her admission that she was not Richard.

“Miss Elizabeth?”

“I am afraid that is my name,” she replied, turning away from him.  “Colonel Fitzwilliam told me that this was the room where I could find the piano.  Your aunt insists that I practice, and my cousin would not allow me to remain at home, even if my head did hurt.”

Darcy tied the rope around his waist more snuggly.

“I was in the hall and a man came up to Colonel Fitzwilliam and there was something that was lost and he told me to go three doors up on the left, so I did and then I entered and rounded the wardrobe,” she waved her hand behind her at the large piece of furniture, “and there was no piano. I tried to leave, but the door will not open.”

Darcy pushed past her and tried the handle for himself.  It was indeed locked.  “You do not have the key?”

“Why should I have the key?” she retorted, looking at him with wide eyes.  “It is not my room.”

Darcy raised a brow.  “You would not be the first lady to attempt to snare a gentleman in such a fashion.”  He clamped his lips closed and moved passed her again to go look for the key.  He should not have said that. She was not the sort to affect a compromise — at least not with him.  If she were to attempt to snare anyone in this house it would be Richard.  Darcy pulled out one drawer and then another as he searched for the key, Not finding it anywhere in his dresser, he got down on his knees and felt under the bed.

“You think I would try to trap you?” Elizabeth had finally found her voice after such a startling accusation.  “If it were my intent to do so, I would have done it while at Netherfield, but why should I want to be tied to you?” She folded her arms and glared at him. Her anger overcoming her embarrassment at seeing him dressed as he was.  “I should hope to marry a man with some sensibility, or at the very least, one who knows how to smile.”

“Thank you for clarifying your opinion of me.” He rose from the floor and rounding the bed to the far side opened a door.  “You will find a piano in here.  There is a sitting room between my room and the room my sister uses when she is here.”  He stepped back and waited for her to cross the room and go through the door.   Then, he closed it and leaned against it.  He was correct in one thing, she disliked him.  He pushed off the door and gathered up his clothes, taking them to the dressing room to attempt to make himself somewhat presentable.

Leenie Brown fell in love with Jane Austen's works when she first read Sense and Sensibility followed immediately by Pride and Prejudice in her early teens. As the second of five daughters and an avid reader, she has always loved to see where her imagination takes her and to play with and write about the characters she meets along the way. In 2013, these two loves collided when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. A year later, in 2014, she began writing her own Austen-inspired stories and began publishing them in 2015. Leenie lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her two teenage boys and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tillney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).

  1. That was delightful to watch and to listen to. I had never heard of them before, and when I checked out iTunes, I found a goldmine to sift through. The music is gorgeous, and they put on quite a show. Thank you for posting this. Some of their music in the background will help as I am parking and cleaning for our move – hopefully by Easter!

    1. This is the first video of theirs that I saw a couple of years ago, and they are now among my favourites. So good! They often are in the background as I am working! Hope it helps with the packing (not a favourite task) and good luck with being moved by Easter. 🙂

  2. I’ve seen the video before and loved it so thanks for posting!
I really enjoyed your excerpt. I do hope you and your muse work through the current writing situation so you can complete!!

    1. Oh, we will! I have told my muse that we will finish 😉 As soon as I find some time — this week has been busier than expected. But that happens. 🙂 Glad you liked the excerpt and the music.

  3. Wow! That’s some musicianship! Does it reflect the controlled chaos of your creativity? Only your analyst knows for sure.

    1. They really are so good! Haha! I like that! It very well could be the controlled chaos of my creativity — it often feels like something on the verge of spinning out of control and getting messy. 🙂 It could also describe the plot to the current Thursday’s Three Hundred as that story is just reaching its stormy section.
