Richard glared at Darcy. Darcy attempted to ignore his cousin’s displeasure at waking to find himself in the carriage. The potion the apothecary had delivered had worked well.
“Would you like another dose of medicine?” Darcy inquired.
“You know that I do not,” Richard snapped. “I would like to be in a comfortable bed rather than this carriage.”

As the sun rose above the horizon the following day, Darcy woke with muscles that only ached a bit. He would take a short walk in the garden in an attempt to shake loose the remaining stiffness before climbing into his carriage today. Then he would collect his cousin and tomorrow, he would see his steward before he began the journey back to Netherfield. There was no point in being in residence even for a short time without checking on the state of his holdings.
Therefore, after his walk in the garden and before he had eaten breakfast, a message was sent to Mr. Turner informing him of Darcy’s wish to see him on the morrow. Then, after a filling breakfast, Darcy was on his way once again to Manchester.
Just over half a day later, Darcy exited his carriage and entered the inn where Richard had his lodgings.

“Come in, my dears,” Mr. Bennet called from his chair near the small hearth in his study as Elizabeth opened the door. “How many daughters are visiting me today?” He peeked over his shoulder toward the door. “My favourites,” he said with a smile.
“No, Papa. I am here, too,” Lydia said.
“And you are not my favourite youngest daughter? Have you given that position to Kitty? I shall have to write this down, so I do not forget if you have.” He closed his book and tucked it between his leg and the arm of the chair.

“He is very loyal to you,” Darcy added.
“He is.”
“So is my cousin.” Elizabeth barely heard the whispered words which Darcy spoke as he once again scratched Dash’s ear before turning his head to look at his sister. “Were you going to practice some music, Georgiana?”
