The Saturday Broadsheet (July 2020)

Hello. I hope your summer (or winter, depending on location) is going well and that you are all staying safe and well. My husband and I have started taking some Saturday drives to various places as we like to do during the summer. The photo is of him walking down one of the boardwalks at Lawrencetown beach last weekend. You’ll notice he’s not wearing very summery clothing. 🙂

We had some nice cool days, and it was actually almost cold at the beach that evening. Today, however, has been a very different sort of day. It was HOT. A trip to the beach would have been refreshing, but sadly it was a workday for us.

But enough of that. Let’s get on with all the writing, publishing, and book news you have opened this blog post to find. 🙂

Writing News

Since I the last time I updated you on my writing, I have written a couple more chapters of Her Convenient Forever, and I have done a bit of planning and plotting on a new Sweet Possibilities story while contemplating how the short story sequel to Matching Mr. Darcy is going to go. Both of these stories will be set at Christmas time.

Here’s how the prologue Sweet Possibilities 2, which sets up why Elizabeth and Mary are at the Gardiners for this story, begins:

You will recognize some of the images on this screenshot of my Pinterest board for Protecting Miss Darcy (PMD) because they are pins of the images I have shared here on Wednesdays. However, mixed in with those Wednesday images are other images and/or articles that helped me visualize what I was writing. (Like that pearl necklace or the stockings with flowers on them.) I’ll let you guess which two images on the screenshot above helped me with this week’s (final) chapter of PMD. 🙂 I think I will be pretty obvious. They are front and center.

He was gone and back so quickly that Georgiana suspected that the gift he held had been waiting next to the door.

“It is nothing overly extravagant, but I think it is fitting.” He opened the box he held in his hand, revealing a small flower pendant made of five diamond petals and a diamond center on a gold chain.

“Oh, it is lovely!” She ran a finger over it.

“That is not all.”

Her eyes lifted from their study of the beautifully delicate necklace he had presented to her to his face.

“Take the necklace.”

She did.

“This is for your hair.” He took a small bag from his jacket pocket. Then, he took the box from her hand and replaced it with the bag.

Georgiana peeked into the bag. “Is that…?” She could not believe what she was seeing. “A bee?”

MM: Canadian Summer (Deane Nesbitt, Jr.)

UPLOADED TO YOUTUBE BY DEAN NESBITT, JR. ON DECEMBER 21, 2015.

Summer is here, and Music Monday posts are going on vacation until September. 🙂 Since many of us might not be doing a lot of travelling this summer due to restrictions, I thought I would leave you all with a music video that showcases some lovely summertime images so you can travel virtually.

I’m also going to leave you with a “summer reading list.” 🙂

Enjoy your summer!

(I’ll still be here with some Tuesday and Thursday posts. I’m not going on a complete hiatus — just a partial one.)

I just had to share this picture because the gentleman with the pipe just looked like he could be a Lord Westonbury sort of fellow. 🙂 And it appears, from the expression on the other man’s face, that a bit of scheming might be taking place in whatever room they are in. (And a bit of scheming has taken place in our story. 😉 )

“Why are you here?” Darcy asked Lord Westonbury.

“To see to Alfred,” Richard answered.

“Does he need a guardian?”

“No,” Wes admitted with a grin. “However, you must know that Young Alfred is unaccustomed to being in trouble.”

“He is not in trouble,” Darcy assured Wes. “Mr. Langley will be well even if you are not here.”

“I am not leaving,” Wes replied. “I wish to see what I started to its conclusion.”

“What you started?” Richard laughed. “I think it is what Darcy started.”

MM: Always (Peder B. Helland)

UPLOADED TO YOUTUBE BY PEDER B. HELLAND ON JANUARY 18, 2018

Today’s musical selection is one of those songs which I can put on and immediately my mind calms and my imagination begins to play. I often listen to this song while writing, but it is also a favorite to listen to while taking a walk. And that is the reason I have chosen to pair this song with the story excerpt below because, in this section of Matching Mr. Darcy, which releases tomorrow, Mr. Darcy is out on a walk and trying to clear his mind.

Matching Mr. Darcy, Chapter 6 Excerpt

Darcy reined in his mount so that he could take in the view before him. The ground rose and fell in gentle swells and small undulations. There were stands of trees that interrupted fields and stood in both great and small gatherings. The countryside was beautiful but lacked the sharp edges that surrounded his home, which was utterly unfortunate, for, he thought to himself, a good rocky crag right in the middle of Longbourn’s garden would have come in handy yesterday for disposing of the insufferable Mr. Newell. That man would not allow himself to be separated from the side of Miss Elizabeth. Not that Miss Bingley would have allowed Darcy to leave her side either.
