Changing Homes (George Elgar Hicks)

Changing Homes by George Elgar Hicks. 1862. Public Domain, via Wikigallary.org

Not more than half an hour later, Elizabeth stood at the far end of the yellow drawing room in front of a large set of doors which opened out onto a small terrace.  Here, with a few friends and family gathered around, she placed her hand in Darcy’s and pledged herself to him.

Leenie Brown

Leenie Brown fell in love with Jane Austen's works when she first read Sense and Sensibility followed immediately by Pride and Prejudice in her early teens. As the second of five daughters and an avid reader, she has always loved to see where her imagination takes her and to play with and write about the characters she meets along the way. In 2013, these two loves collided when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. A year later, in 2014, she began writing her own Austen-inspired stories and began publishing them in 2015. Leenie lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her two teenage boys and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tillney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).

  1. Happy New Year, Leenie! Hope you are feeling much better. I apologize for the delay in writing this. Thank you for the lovely ‘gift’ too. I love the details in this painting.

    1. Happy New Year to you as well! I am feeling a good deal better. Thanks.

      You’re welcome.

I’m glad you enjoy this painting. I’m sure I could look at it for hours, studying the details and imagine the stories behind the image. 🙂

  2. I’m like you, I could look at this photo for hours. There is so much detail that the more I look at it, the more things I find. I love the open doors leading outside. Oh, to walk in that garden. Then I noticed the little girls… bridesmaids, I assumed as they appeared to be dressed alike. On the right, one of their group looked like she might be rushing forward. I tried to see if someone was chasing her but saw no one. I went on line so I could blow up that corner. I could see more clearly the little boy with, what looks like, a vase in his arms. Possibly, it is her little brother… no one seemed to be looking at him. How cute. You always find the best pictures. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and healthy.

    1. I’m happy to know you got such enjoyment out of this picture. Looking for these is fun, but dangerous as I can get pleasantly lost for hours. Lol However, it’s also such a good way to spark my imagination.
