The January 2022 Saturday Broadsheet

The Saturday Broadsheet, with all my writing life updates, is now available at the link at the bottom of this short post.

In this issue of the Broadsheet you will find:

  • Info about what, if anything, is posting on my blog.
  • Info about my writing and publishing news, including a link for subscribers to a free download, links for where to find my newest releases, and a first glimpse at a NEW Teatime Tales story.
  • Info about any book promotions: I have one book on sale for the next week and have two included in a multi-author promotion.
  • And an entertaining and informative video about shortbreads.

Have a great weekend!

I hope you have time to read a book.

Leenie Brown fell in love with Jane Austen's works when she first read Sense and Sensibility followed immediately by Pride and Prejudice in her early teens. As the second of five daughters and an avid reader, she has always loved to see where her imagination takes her and to play with and write about the characters she meets along the way. In 2013, these two loves collided when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. A year later, in 2014, she began writing her own Austen-inspired stories and began publishing them in 2015. Leenie lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her two teenage boys and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tillney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).

  1. Have read the broadsheet. was very disappointed to note that some subscribers received a link for a free copy of Arguing With Mary – have purchased a copy anyway but bit uncomfortable to know I have paid for something others have had for nothing

    1. First, let me say that I am sorry that you are feeling disappointed. I know how disappointing it can feel to purchase something, only to see it go on sale a short time later. As an example, a few months ago, I purchased a boxset of books at full price from an author I enjoy reading and then, just a few weeks later I saw that same set of books for a deeply reduced price in a Bookbub email. Unfortunately these things happen, and they do sometimes leave us with unpleasant feelings.

That being said, while I know that it is not possible to prevent these sorts of things happening sometimes, it is never my desire to disappoint a reader. In fact, I take steps to ensure that does not happen as much as I am able to do so. In last month’s Saturday Broadsheet, I mentioned that Arguing with Mary would be a gift to all my newsletter mailing list subscribers:

“There will be a Mary and the colonel sequel to With Quill and Ink. That story will be a gift to all my email subscribers. As much as I would like to get that to you before Christmas, it may be after that before it is ready.” (quoted from the December 2021 Saturday Broadsheet)

This was an attempt to avoid a newsletter subscriber purchasing a book when they would be able to get it for free. It also gave those who wanted to get the book for free time to subscribe to my newsletter mailing list so they could take advantage of this opportunity.

Obviously my attempt failed here, so how can I help?

Are you a newsletter mailing list subscriber? If so, I’d like to discover if something went awry with emails that have been sent because there was an email sent out on January 5th with a link to download Arguing with Mary.

If you’re not and would still like to return the copy you purchased and get a free copy of the book when you sign up for the newsletter email list, you might be able to do that, depending on which store you purchased it at.

Feel free to contact me privately at leeniebrownauthor@gmail.com to discuss this further if you want.

I want to assure you that I am taking your disappointment seriously and will carefully consider what I can change in my current processes to do more to prevent such things happening in the future. Thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts. I truly appreciate them.

  2. I subscribe to newsletters but didn’t see link for “Lily in Midwinter. ” Chrissie120320, you should always contact Leenie first before you purchase if you are a Patreon or should get something free. She honors her word.

    1. Did you open the newsletter in your email or did you use the link in this post? If you used the link in the post, it will not show the download links in the browser version of the newsletter since that version is public. The version you open inside your inbox is private and will show the link for downloading Lily in Midwinter. You might have this story already in your library as it can also be found in First Blooms and Second Chances which I believe was given away a couple years ago to both my patrons and mailing list subscribers. You can always message me on Patreon or email me at leeniebrownauthor@gmail.com, and we can sort out how you can get your copy of this story.
