The Saturday Broadsheet: Just one more chapter…

Those four words are soooo dangerous! I have a dreadful time stopping anywhere before the end of a book — I always have. These four words played a part in what I did and did not get done this week. 🙂

Writing Life

Due, in part, to some poor choices on my part 😉 — see the info about reading past my bedtime at the bottom of this newsletter — I got less written this week than I had wanted.

The other part of the not getting as much done as wanted is that with all the things I am doing this year and things I have been learning about and experimenting with, I am finding my writing process is shifting somewhat. I used to reread what was written the day before and then jump right into the new chapter.

However, I am now finding that I need to read one day and then, give myself mental space to think about the story before jumping into that next chapter.

To be honest, I have been fighting this process change for many weeks prior to this week, when I decided that I will embrace it. I’m rearranging when I do some of the non-story-writing things during that break between reading and writing to make sure I still get everything or almost everything done. (I don’t need to be perfectly still to think. I just need to be away from my writing — my brain will work on the story in the background.) I’m sure as I settle into this new format of doing things, it will become just normal. 🙂

All that being said, I did get one chapter of each of two of my three works in progress (His Irreplaceable Belle and Matching Mr. Darcy) written this week. I also re-read enough of the third work in progress (Cherishing Kitty) to decide if the story was done or not. And I have come to the conclusion that it is done.

That means the final chapter of Cherishing Kitty will post here on March 5, 2020. Then, hopefully, with no more than a one-week break in between, I will start posting Georgiana’s story, which will be the final installment in the Marrying Elizabeth series.

Publishing News

I just have a couple of reminders this week. None of my current works in progress are anywhere near ready to publish. 🙂

All Readers — this collection of books is in the process of being returned to all vendors.

You can find the Choices omnibus at this link.   But wait, before you click…

Here’s a little insider info, I’m giving this series bundle another week to get listed and then, I’m planning to put it on sale for a few days as a welcome back from Kindle Unlimited. So, be watching for that information in next week’s Broadsheet.

Book Reviews

I’ve picked two reviews this week because they have something in common – and no, I’m not talking about the matching star ratings. LOL I’m talking about the mention of Reginald Fitzwilliam, Viscount Westonbury. If you like a bad boy who comes to see his errors and works to improve them, then you’ll enjoy Lord Westonbury. He really is fun and a treat, and he totally is not a prat. 🙂

Thank you, Lynn Char and RCM-Silvia for your reviews!

Something Extra for Last

I found these two memes on Pinterest. I did not make them. I just saved them to a Pinterest board.

Both of these are full of truth for me, especially in the past two weeks. 🙂 I have been using my library card to find some ebooks to tempt me into staying up waaaayyyy too late. And yes, I read until, at least, 4 AM a couple of nights. While it made for a couple of tired days, I actually felt very relaxed and as if my creative well was being refreshed.

Something that I find happens with me when I read is that I find the next day or two are spent processing the story mentally before I am ready to move on to something new. If the books are in a series, I can move on a bit faster to the next book, but I am not a read a book in the morning and a totally different one in the afternoon. Is that just weird, or do you relate?

The books that kept me awake this past week were all library books. I love how I can open my Overdrive app on my phone and click to be taken to the ebook branch of my library at any time of the day or night, and within minutes I can have several books added to my bookshelf. (And the best part for me is that there are never any late return fees. 😉 )

Did you know?

You can request any of my non-Kindle Unlimited ebooks be added to your local library as they are listed in some library catalogs. At present, this only applies to ebook editions.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Leenie Brown

Leenie Brown fell in love with Jane Austen's works when she first read Sense and Sensibility followed immediately by Pride and Prejudice in her early teens. As the second of five daughters and an avid reader, she has always loved to see where her imagination takes her and to play with and write about the characters she meets along the way. In 2013, these two loves collided when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. A year later, in 2014, she began writing her own Austen-inspired stories and began publishing them in 2015. Leenie lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her two teenage boys and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tillney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).

    1. I did read two book in a row this past week, but one was the story for the older brother and one was for the younger brother. So, even though they were separate stories, they went together, which made it easier to continue reading as it kept me in the world where my mind already was. 🙂 And there are times when I read a book that is just “dreadful” I often read another very soon after to wash the other one away. LOL But most times I need time to digest the story I read — what worked, why I like the characters, and so on. 🙂
