One Shaky Step Forward

I’ve done something new. I’ve published a non-fiction book. It’s a writing journal in which I have taken excerpts from several of my books (11 to be exact) and used them as illustrations for what the scripture tells us godly love is like.

While the book’s genre might be a new one for me to publish in, the parts of me that went into creating it are not. I can see how God joined together my years of writing, those spent teaching (both in school and church), my lifetime of exposure to Him through church attendance and schooling, and this in-born love for love stories with happy endings.

It’s a little book – less than 18,000 words in length and only 80 pages in regular 5×8 paperback format – and yet, it feels monumental and if I’m being honest (which I am), scary. 🙂

It’s monumental because it brings so much of my life to a juncture in this moment.

It’s scary for several reasons.

One, because this book feels more revelatory. It’s putting a personal part of me into the world that isn’t clothed in the costume of an imaginary character.

Two, I’m a reserved and horribly shy person in real life, and this book feels like it’s pushing me forward instead of letting me hang back.

Three, it’s just the beginning. I feel God pulling me towards a task of continuing to write about Him by continuing to combine all those things He brought together in this book. Will they all be written under this pen name – no. Some will, some won’t.

But no matter the pen name or the medium I use to share my content, the me that I am will still be an integral part of the process and hopefully, publishing will become less scary. (It did with fiction books, so I know there’s hope LOL)

But enough about me. Here’s what you really need to know. Below is the book’s blurb (the description you find on the back of the book or Amazon’s sales page), and below that is a link to find the book in your local Kindle store.

This book is only available on Amazon because it is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. I put it there because several of the illustrations come from books that are currently in KU. A few come from books that are not in KU, but they are available to purchase in the Kindle store.

I thought that is someone like me, who becomes curious about the books used as illustrations, decided to look up the books on the sales platform they used to purchase the journal, well, they wouldn’t be too happy to find the books were not there. I know that would be true for me, and I’m certain I can’t be the only one to think that way. So, for now, this journal is only available on Amazon.

Now, for that blurb…

Is it possible to learn about God’s love through a romance book?

Many would laugh out loud and give a scoffing no as a reply to this question. Some might give a shrug and a hesitant maybe which rises at the end, colouring their tone with doubt. But just ask Leenie Brown that question, and you’ll get a resounding yes!

Leenie has been writing and publishing romances since 2015 and has read or heard many disparaging comments about her genre. She knows that romance stories are often looked down on as frivolous or even misleading and something that causing readers to turn away from Christ instead of towards Him.

Glimpses of God’s Love is her response to the error she sees in this sort of thinking. In this journal, she’ll make the case that romance stories present a uniquely appropriate place to delve deeply into what perfect love – God’s love – looks like. Join romance author Leenie Brown as she uses examples from her very own books to illustrate and reflect on God’s love.

Leenie Brown

Leenie Brown fell in love with Jane Austen's works when she first read Sense and Sensibility followed immediately by Pride and Prejudice in her early teens. As the second of five daughters and an avid reader, she has always loved to see where her imagination takes her and to play with and write about the characters she meets along the way. In 2013, these two loves collided when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. A year later, in 2014, she began writing her own Austen-inspired stories and began publishing them in 2015. Leenie lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with her two teenage boys and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tillney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).
